Our Pilot Program: Building a Foundation of Support

From 2020 to 2023, we proved what’s possible with the right support system. Our pilot program trained 20 compassionate counselors who helped individuals manage everything from doctor’s appointments to emotional struggles and daily symptom tracking. This program was more than just a service, it was a lifeline for those who needed it. But to continue and expand this program, we need your help. Your donations will enable us to relaunch this invaluable service and reach more people who are waiting for the support they deserve.

The Power of the Pilot Program

What We Did

From 2020 to 2023, Chronic Illness Hotline ran a transformative pilot program that trained 20 Compassionate Counselors. These counselors provided text-based support for anyone reaching out, whether it was for advice on managing their condition, coping with emotional stress, or navigating the healthcare system. We became a lifeline for individuals facing daily struggles and big challenges alike.

Key Areas of Support Provided:

  • Doctor’s Appointments: Helping texters navigate the stress of making and keeping doctor’s appointments.
  • Distractions on Difficult Days: Providing a listening ear during tough days and offering guidance for emotional relief.
  • Practice for Healthcare Conversations: Assisting texters in preparing for important medical discussions, building confidence to approach doctors and discuss symptoms.
  • Ongoing Support Between Therapy Appointments: Offering a consistent source of support for texters awaiting their next therapy session.
  • Medication & Treatment Adherence: Encouraging texters to stay on track with their medications and treatment plans, offering support and motivation when needed.
  • Relationship Guidance: Providing support during relationship changes, including those with partners, friends, and family.
  • Symptom Tracking: Helping texters monitor and track symptoms over time to manage chronic health conditions more effectively.
  • Grief & Loss of Independence: Offering emotional support for individuals grieving the loss of independence.

Why It Worked

The pilot program was not just a temporary service—it was a model that proved what we can accomplish with the right resources. Our Compassionate Counselors delivered genuine, impactful support, and we saw firsthand the difference it made in people’s lives. Our approach to peer-led counseling created a unique space for people to feel understood and empowered.
